The Schoolhouse Thrift Shop at Rio

The Schoolhouse Thrift Shop at Rio opened in 1992, at 1147 East Rio Road next to the Episcopal Church of our Saviour. Its main purpose is to raise funds for the outreach programs of Region XV of the Episcopal Church.

Money raised by the Thrift Shop goes to support Habitat for Humanity, Ministry With the Aging, The Alliance for Interfaith Ministries, and the Gertrude Mitchell House, thereby helping children, women, the aging and those in need.

The Shop not only sells items at low cost, it gives clothing to families in need by working with social service organizations. The Shop also offers Christian fellowship for its volunteers.

The Schoolhouse Thrift Shop at Rio was recently named the 3rd place winner in the Favorite Thrift Shop category in the Daily Progress Reader's Choice contest. We want to thank all of our loyal customers for voting for us and we promise to continue to work to maintain your confidence and trust.

Any time the Albemarle Schools are closed due to inclement weather, the Schoolhouse Thrift Shop is closed. If the schools are running on a two-hour delay, the Thrift Shop will open at its regular 10:00 AM schedule. Thank you.

Whether you are a new or returning student, The Schoolhouse Thrift Shop at Rio is a great place to help fill in your wardrobe and spiff up your dorm room or apartment without upsetting your budget. We have tons of gently used clothing and accessories, not to mention household items and collectibles. STS is a great place to find that "special something" to dress up your wardrobe! Opportunities Abound

The Thrift Shop is staffed by volunteers and one paid staff member from the Episcopal churches in Region XV of the Diocese of Virginia. Volunteering is a wonderful way to serve others and become a living example of Christian values. If you are a member of one of the Episcopal churches in the Region XV area and are interested in spending a few hours working with a great group of people and having fun at the same time, please stop by the Shop or give us a call at 434-973-2271.
